(BISMARCK, ND) – Chad Oban, Executive Director of the North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party, released the following statement regarding Cory Fong’s resignation as Tax Commissioner:
“It is not surprising that Cory Fong is resigning in the middle of his term as Tax Commissioner. Fong was already one of five elected statewide Republican officials to originally receive his job by appointment, and is now the second Tax Commissioner in eight years to leave office before his term expires.
“Public office is a public trust. To leave office before your term expires is breaking faith with the voters who elected you to work on their behalf. Fong’s resignation is part of a pattern. North Dakota Republicans have been in power for so long that they have no problem playing partisan musical chairs with our state’s constitutional offices.
“We saw during the last legislative session how extreme the North Dakota Republican Party has become. Congressman Kevin Cramer is now showing us how out of step they are by killing a long-term Farm Bill and shutting down the federal government. Today’s resignation is further proof that North Dakota Republicans are also extremely arrogant.”
