Haider begins work on May 1, succeeds outgoing executive director Chad Oban
(BISMARCK, ND) – The North Dakota Democratic-NPL Party announced today that Robert Haider has been hired as the party’s new executive director. The party’s Policy Committee approved the hire on Saturday during its meeting in Bismarck. Haider will begin work on May 1.
Haider is a Burlington native who holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota and a Juris Doctor from the UND School of Law. He has been actively involved in state politics and policy throughout his career, having most recently served as staff assistant to the DEM-NPL House caucus during the 2015 legislative session. In 2014, Haider managed Ryan Taylor’s campaign for agriculture commissioner. He has also managed the successful legislative campaign for District 42 DEM-NPL legislators Mac Schneider, Kylie Oversen, and Corey Mock in 2012. He also managed Mock’s campaign for Secretary of State in 2010. In addition to his work for DEM-NPL legislators and candidates, Haider served as an intern for U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, a legal intern for both a state attorney general and the Democratic National Committee’s Voter Protection Project, and a field organizer for national and progressive campaigns.
“I’m honored to have been selected for this position,” said Haider. “My career has been dedicated to fighting for progress and positive change. The opportunity to serve as executive director will allow me to continue this effort and contribute to the cause of strengthening our party.”
Haider will succeed Chad Oban, who has served as DEM-NPL executive director since January 2013. “Back in December I informed party leadership of my decision to step down at the end of the legislative session,” said Oban. “Having known Robert for years, he is a perfect fit for this position and I know he will excel at this job.”
DEM-NPL Chairwoman Kylie Oversen praised both Oban and Haider. “Serving as executive director is a demanding job. Chad Oban did an exceptional job and did it longer than most. While I hate to see him go, I completely understand his desire to move on to new opportunities,” said Oversen.
“Robert Haider is an ideal choice for executive director. I’ve known Robert for years. He knows our state and party, has ties across the state and country, and his legal and campaign management experience are a perfect match for our needs. I look forward to working with him in the coming months as we prepare for the 2016 campaign.”
